Possible engine swap for '00 Mustang?I own a 2000 Mustang, of course a six-banger w/ std. 5-speed, completely stock. It is near 120K miles and one of the cats is missing cause of a block...It would've cost $2000 to order the part straight from Ford, so I got a straight pipe welded in between where the cat should be through to the sensor, so my SES light is always on, but it just sounds a bit louder and runs fine. It's getting old, and I really don't wanna buy a new one, or a GT, because of the beautiful and increasingly uncommon electric green paint job...so I wanted to know what would be the EASIEST and CLEANEST engine swap. I have heard 4.2L sixer from an F150 would be a clean swap, but just require a bigger tranny. I also hear (but of course) that a 5.0L swap would be nice, but I'm concerned that there would not be sufficient space to fit the crate in, even if it was a small block. SO...I want to hear from the experts. What do you guys think? Please get back to me on this. My Sally's (Yes, Mustang Sally, get over it, lulz.) gettin' old...and it's time for a mass upgrade. Thanks guys! -->Chris D.<-- |

4.2 is pretty easy
5.0L is a whole mess of work

the 5.0 would work... but u need a lot of cash and parts.. i think it would be like buying a new GT or close to it

Yeah I figured the same thing. So a 4.2L would be the easiest and cheapest way to go? What I would have to upgrade? Tranny flywheel and gear out bigger ratios? Would the crank and acc's swap cleanly?

Nah, just a few extra ponies would be great. Maybe gear out the ratios, probably a cold air system...new pulleys...and a tight exhaust system.

the 4.2 will be your cleanest swap if you get it from www.precisionengines.com it will be your best bet, what they do is take your engine re work it and give it back... you will see a good deal of increase in your numbers...

new pulleys?..
the motor brings all the shit... u would just have to bolt it up.... u would want to change to an u.d pulley wich is smaller than stock crank pulley.. that would free up some h.p 4.10s with t.lok if u do a lot of highway use 3.73s and t lok ebay CAI and call it done

Lol. So if they just restroke my engine to a 4.2L I, in theory, shouldn't have to replace anything at all, right? As far as an accomodation to the new power?
