Finally got a mustang

Well I picked up a 97 v6 and it's a manuel... guess I need to change my dads car out of my profile because I finally have my own. Anyways it was a good deal and quite under our budget so we couldnt pass it up. Bumpers need to need to be painted and the front lights need to be switched out and she's brand new!

Anyways over the next year it will serve as a project car but as a daily driver. Nothing seriouse just like if I have some extra cash here and there from my job or if my dad feels generous ( I know you will eventually see this dad). I wanted to do exaust first to get it flowing better. I want a dual set up but I need to switch out the midpipe. Now for a v6 what flows better x or h? And the cats will be removed?

Also how much do 4:10's run for a v6? ( could be price including the instal)

And anything else would help to... want to see what alantic has to say.

With the v6 you can actually run straight pipes. The exhaust gases equal on each side and you can right straight duals if you would like. Now for mid pipes at the most it will be 1 hp between each setup from what I have seen. The x made 1 hp more at high rpms than the h. The h will sound better and low rpms and then a v6 being a v6 it will just be loud at high rpms. I say go for an h. Just depends on if you have emissions or not should be your question for offroad or not.

Also for gears you should get a LSD at the same time. I've seen some gears around $150 and some about $300. Just depends where you look.

Y's it gotta be all about AB99 He aint the only one with a decent 6er around here!
4.10's will run you about 200 plus what it will cost for the install if you don't do it yourself.

I would suggest going with an Hpipe for better pressure equalization.

You might also want to look into a chip, and an intake. The 94-98 intakes rob the V6 of ALOT of power.

Well for a cold air kit how about this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW

And for an off road h pipe I was thinking this:

http://www.mustangtuning.com/9498v6-...ad-h-pipe.html

and the rest will be custom fabricated. How loud will it be if the guy at the exaust place gets rid of my mufflers and just welds a two pipes he fabricated on?

I wouldn't pay over 130 for gears and 150 for the trac lok for the 7.5" rear. You will need a speedcal to adjust the speedo/odo for the 4.10s. Install was 200 for me.

I would straight up buy a Thunderbird SC motor, drop it in with Mac long tubes and bolt a flange with a bung and O2 sensors in and weld up some mufflers and have a full engine with 230 hp 330 tq and full exhaust for about 700 bucks. Then throw on some fats and skinnies, take off the front sway bar, up the boost and have 250-300 rwhp on a locked rear for about 2 grand total. You would be deep into the low 13s then.

Doubt my dad would go for it... I just wanted to give the car some ummfff (enuff to take down a 5.0 s-95 ). Just get the basic bolt on's and gears for the time being then eventually a s/c. I don't want the supercharger for a while tho until I can really afford it. I can seem to find a good price on 4:10s for a v6 well actually I can't find any can some one get me a link.

Ebay, look at "driveline specialists" power seller and email about a ford 7.5" t lok, 4.10:1 rp gear set, and install kit. I think they charge 400 bucks for it. Then, you need a speedcal for the speedo/odo corrections.

For the supercharger remember with the 94-98 3.8L we can use the m-90 sc from a sc thunderbird with the 3.8.

I'm guessing it comes with it's own manifold? Cause when ever I see them on ebay there just the s/c alone usually no throttle body with no manifold for 300. Which isn't to bad if I can find the manifold

You can get it cheaper than that from a local junkyard

Well Im doing a custom fabricated exaust system first I guess... other than that what kind of pick up can I get from some 4:10's. My dads gt was an automatic, did 0-60 in 5.49 seconds with cai, throttle body, and an off road x pipe. After 4:10s it did 4.98 just leaving it in drive. I know the 0-60 on a 97 is somewere in high sevens to mid 8's. Could 4:10's bring me down to a solid 7? and If custom fabricated straight pipes I should pick up some nice rear wheel horses right? ( the 0-60 was judgeing from a test drive and it was stick ).

4.10s shaved .6 seconds off of my car in the 1/4. I have no clue what my 0-60 time is, but even so (for my 4r70w auto tranny) I ran a 2.2, 60 ft at the track on street tires.

And don't run without mufflers. Your car will sound like shit man, trust me from when I started my car with nothing but long tubes bolted up...

I probably have somewhere around 205-215 rwhp to run my 1/4 times, but I haven't been on the dyno so I'm basing it off of mathematical formulas...

Thanks for the info, guess straight pipe's wont work as well as they would on a v8. Would an h pipe, with no cats but with mufflers, not sound ricey but not v8 either... I don't need any sound at all actually... just looking for a better flowing system for the rear wheel horses.

For the best "street legal" flowing setup, do what I did:

MAC Long Tube Headers
Off Road H pipe
Magnaflow Mufflers

Not only does it sound like a GT with Magnaflows at low RPMs, it sounds great with very little drone at cruise. However, at WOT (wide open throttle) it is just insane loud. For a loopy idle, an aggressive cam can do that for you, but if you just want a good sound, do what I did, it also flows the best...

Doesnt sound bad at all... I just am not a fan of the v6 sound. It's a plus that a set up like that helps and sounds good.
