Yeah...I'm not much of a technical buff, but I"m just kinda off on what vvt means, or displacement, or what low revs have to do with anything. I don't really want to feel like a retard...which is why I'm asking. Any info would be great...all I know is my 2004 is a stock V6 3.8L.

With my '07 and a tuner, could I just change the compression ratio and shit to get more HP out of it with little/no mods? All I have is a CAI.

no, the compression is changed with a cam, or physically altering the cylinder.

but a tuner would be able to add a few more HP, along with making it easier on gas.

better get that RECON man... bwahaha ... hawaii sucked.

Hawaii does suck. Hate it. Especially the annoying traffic at 1600 hours.

but seriously averlus... go to the sat.city hall and get a recon sticker. if you are pulled over and have altered your car in anyway you will get a hefty fine.

even though domestics are rarely even bothered in hawaii.

Cams don't change compression... they change valve lift, duration, etc.

In order to change compression, you either change the volume of air to be compressed at Bottom dead center (stroke, bore, etc), or you change the volume of the cylinder at top dead center (milled heads, thicker head gaskets, etc).

well, gee. if you change the cam, it would allow more air to be let in, depending on the cam's profile. i.e. VOLUME

Please explain how changing the cam changes the volume of the cylinder @ either BDC or TDC.

yeah, changing the crankshaft changes the volume of the cylinders not the camshaft.

Yep. Pretty old. Ford does have a couple of decent V6's. The new Duratec 35, and the 6'er they use in Australia's Falcon.

I agree with Averlus, the new 3.5L V6 is a great engine.

Oh, and I would say that the 3.8 is a good engine as well. Why? It has an EXCELLENT power-per-dollar ratio.

I don't care if Honda makes a care if Honda's K20 motors make more power with less displacement... the engines also cost SEVERAL times more to buy, maintain, etc.

What the 3.8 lacks in specific output, it makes up for in value or bang-for-the-buck, imo.
