Wow!! I never realized how close the #s were between a 99-03 v6 and an 87-93 GT. 190-193 hp in a 6 compared to 200-215 in a v8. With a few moderate mods, the v6s could be right there with the old 5.0s. Of course, they dont have the same potential but its still something to think about for the folks who could only afford the 6 or had it handed down to them.

Yes indeed Bossman, I have been known to race a stock 5.0 or 2 and I won 2/3 races, 2 being from a dig. He was a manual.

Those are great numbers for a member to use in the calculations page with the bore and stroke. I had trouble finding those numbers myself. Great post man.

MSN Autos has Ford factory numbers in their archives. There are also topics and threads in the v6 section about the transmissions, rear end, gear ratio, etc. If you want a general overscoop, check out MSN Autos; if you want specifics, Check out our other threads in the v6 forums archives.

Welcome to MM!

Glad to have moe knowledge amongst the ranks...

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions in new threads so you can get more specific replies. If we don't know it right off the top, we will help you find the info.

It's the 3.8 pushrod. The SOHCs are the 4.0L from 05+.

why dont those engines make over 200 horsepower. they have a large amount of displacement. is it because of the pushrods?compression?or is it because they dont have vvt?

im just curious because i thought with such a large engine they would make more than 193 horsepower.

bingo Low revs and low compression 8.5 to 1 will not give you a whole lot but a good turbo or s/c can change everything!!!
