rubber cylinders


When i was replacing my rear springs there was rubber cylinders inside the springs... wut the hell are these??? bump stops??? my car goes thunkkkk! everytime i hit a dip i dont know if you even need these?

i'm gonna take a wild guess and say they're shocks...but i really don't know much about suspension.

you're talking about the spring isolators. they're there to prevent that clunking sound you're complaining about.

no not the isolators. rubber cylinders are the best way to describe them. they are inside the springs like the prings are coiled around them. the cylinders are hollow and are about half the size of the spring. Im guessing that it allows the spring to compress a certain amount until the frame hits the rubber cylinder i think. they were there with the old springs so i just put them bak on but do i even need them?

yes you need them unless you have expensive shocks that can compensate for the spring-y-ness... but then this would give you an extremely stiff ride... and at which point you would still need them...

I to am telling you this assuming you are talking about the bump stops
