Well for those of you that remember my last post i mentioned that my car was making a whining noise. Well my mom said it was coming from the altinator. It's making a scratchy whining noise. It's hard to explain but she said it's going out. Is she right? How much do they cost? They seem pretty easy to replace so am i to assume i could do it myself?

most likely its your power sterring since they are loud ass mofo's in mustangs..

if when you turn it gets louder..for sure power sterrring

either alternator or power sterring your looking at about $100

Well for some reason it gets softer when i put my foot on the break or turn the wheel. The sound coming from the altinator is strange. Kind of like a really fast clicking noise if i had to say anything. Mom said that's the same noise she heard when the altinators in her other cars have gone bad but that was quite a few years ago. It's hard to explain the sound though.

their are three things that whine on the front end when they go out... water pump, alternator, and power steering pump... here is what you do start your car pop the hood and listen to which one is making the noise ... if your having trouble tellin which one it is... then ... quite?? it shouldn't be hard at all...

also alternator would leave you with a weak charge and water pump would leave you with a hot engine... lucky you ... you have two gauges that monitor those... if they look good then its power steering if they look bad its that item

Yeah she does know more than me acctually LOL. I'm clueless about cars. I'm learning as i go.

I know it's not the water pump because i just had a problem with the car overheating and it wasnt the pump. My engine and oil temp have been running a little warm and it sounds like its coming from the altinator so that must be it. Thanks for he help guys
