ok i am lookin to get a new cam wat all do they really do..like how do they help in the proformance department. thanks

depending on the came you they, they do diffent things

it can open your intake valve longer, or shorter but open it up more. same with the exhaust valve causing that lopy cam idle you get
also the different grinds can give you a better power stroke since you have more air, therefor forcing the piston down harder, spinning the crankshaft harder and faster..which in turn leads to more power

if you didnt understand that
basically your looking at 20-25hp

yea cams do different things usually to pull all your mods together...

say you got fully ported and polished intake... Full exhaust and a stroked engine... you can get a cam built for that... if you have a stock engine with a turbo... you can get a cam for that...

it all depends on your engine specs and such ssms will be able to help you out

can you install a cam on just a stock engine? i guess what i am trying to say, is it worth it? will you see any gains with stock internals, stock heads, stock ect?

not much maybe 20 TOPS at the extrem...

now if you did a port and polish heads and intake new rocker rollers lifter etc. springs... new exhuast and new injectors you could see around 30 easy ... that is when the car is tunned for that

If your doing work yourself then installing a cam would be a good learing experiance.

If your paying someone to do it, its not worth it. Then when you have the heads installed your going to be paying for labor twice.

shh ... don't tell him ...

look i know people say that the stock fuel system is sufice ... but the gt's have bigger parts for a reason ... and its not the fact that they have a bigger bore and what not... ... if you have a strong cam and intake and exhaust... step up the fuel system and you will see a good increase...

either it has to be stepped up or tuned...if not more air in the combustion chamber with less fuel will not improve strokes and compression as much.
