Rattling

I Have a 98 mustang v6 and whenever i start it up it has this weird rattling noise. Not just at a cold startup but at every startup, and one place said it was my rear main bearing seal and another place said it was my starter. Not sure what the problem is but it started after i went to ohio, when i got back from ohio i was up to 6000 miles since my last oil change and i usually do it every 3000.

umm ok first... go change your oil

your car hates you right now.

secondly... where is the noise coming from?

+1 sounds like cats heat shield. if u rev does it louder harsher could also be cracked fly wheel if it sounds like its from the back of the engine. my escort had that it suxed ass. just had the tranny done and the fly wheel cracked. it made a rattle at idle and a god awefull viberating metal on metal sound as u drove or revved up.

the heat sheilds dont seem to be rattling at all, they arent loose or anything. im not leaking anything either so i highly doubt its my rear main bearing seal.

would be sucky if it was the fly wheel. they can crack. check where the sound is comming from it has to be an external rattle some where

you might have Buckeyes stuck in your engine.

I had the same simptoms in my Berretta years ago. I sold the damn thing the way it was. The fix sounds expensive. Good luck...
