Loud Whistle from ebay cai

I bought a cai from ebay and the sent me a 99-01 kit instead of a 96-98 kit! I put it on my car and when i would drive it would whistle extreamly loud! Even louder when the A/C was on! The weird thing was that it didnt do it in park that bad! I could even feel a strange vibration in the pedal as i let off the gas? it was really weird! So, i took the cai off and plan on buying another from mustang tuning i hope it dosnt do that again! Anybody know why it would do this?

I couldnt tell you without being able to listen to it but a CAI does whistle. Its because there is less restriction and the air flows better. Any CAI is going to whistle a little bit. As for the vibration, I couldnt tell you.

Now that I think about it, if the CAIs intake tube is metal and it is not insulated where it mounts to the fender, It will transfer engine vibrations through the throttle body and you could more than likely be able to feel these vibrations through the throttle cable and into the pedal.

Is it using the el cheapo filter element? That could be part of it too. I would almost bet money that the tube has nothing to do with it. A K&N filter might help and you can get one at the local AutoZone. Yeah, the cheaper one is cotton just like the K&N but it may not have the restriction that a K&N would and it wouldnt silence the same way.

WELL... the 99+ are different than the 96-98's. I have the same BBK set-up on my car. NO WHISTLE. It was on a 02 and i took it off and swapped. I dont wanna sound like a dick, but did you install it correctly? Maybe something rubbing or hitting like Boss said, may be rubbing and causing a vibration.

yea im totaly sure that it was on right but see we had to fabricate it to fit a 98 since it was for a 99 and on a 98 the TB is parallel to the side wall, in a 99 the TB has about a 45 bend in it. I had to fab up a rubber piece from home depot to make it fit. Also the pcv hose is located in a entirely dif spot on the 99 so i had to get a longer piece of hose to make it reach up there. Its pretty hard to screw up putting a cold air intake on! I know it sounds bizzar but ask Atlanticblue it was the strangest noise!

Best advice I can give here is to see if you can send ir back and trade it for one that is made for your year model. You shouldnt have to fab on something that is supposed to fit from the factory. At least not as extensively as you say you had to with this one.

i say e-mail the seller and tell him it was his fault that he sent you the wrong one or that he didnt make it clear in the description what year it was for. he has to return your money and you would send him back the cai, its a rule on e-bay that if the item is different from description blah blah you can return it

he told me the description said like 96-01 or something obviously wrong. he emailed the seller and the seller guaranteed it would work on a 98. funny thing is, i went over to help him put it on after he had problems and it was the same one i have on my car, just black.

Hey now, I bought one off Ebay and it works fine.

I've heard bad things about certain Ebay ones, and good things about others. I went with a Bomz Racing CAI and installed it myself, never had problems.

I can hear it, especially when I start her up, but I don't have any loud sounds or vibrations.

i bet it was rubbing your AC and you had a vaccuum leak somewhere along the pipes even though you thoroughly checked for leaks. sorry you had a bad ebay experience, but move on and get a densecharger/ tunable induction for your yr

It's all normal. with the radio down my CAI whistles at high RPMs. If it wasn't for the sound of the MaD TyTe VTEC!!!! That's all I'd hear.

CAIs make great sound.
