'98 V6 ECM Cal?

Hey every one. I'm new to site, but not new to my '98 V6 Mustang.

I haven't really moded it except for dual exhaust, and some better speakers. I noticed that the '99 V6 has a lot more HP than my '98 V6, and being a engine performance engineer, I realize that this is probably just an ECM calibration difference.

I was wondering, can I just get a '99 V6 ECM and put it in my car and get more HP, or is there a lot more to it then that? Are there any major differences between the '99 V6 and the '98 V6? I guess the next step would be to buy a MOTEC ECM, put the engine on a dyno, and make my own calibration.

Thanks.

Actually the 94-98 is single port and the 99-04 are split port. Also for your own tune and stuff just get an xcal 2

The difference is in fuel lines, split port intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, cam, and tune.

Interesting, so I would pretty much have to drop in a new top half to get the 40 HP increase from the '98 to '99 engine.

Yes, but the engine swap is easier than the changes to make a singleport a split port. You have to fabricate a lot to mod our V6's because of a poor, but growing aftermarket.
