air silencer

this may sound like a dumb question but what exactaly is the air silencer what dose it look like
and how would i remove it

its like a rubber tube thingy, i dont kno what it is for, it really just restricts air flow, it was the first thing i took out of my car, to remove it, just remove the thing that hold the filter, and its a rubber tube thing, just pull it out, itsn ot attached to anything, and then put the filter holder thing back on, its the simplest thing u could do

i assumed that was the silencer...the rubber snout u can remove as well...

it's supposed to direct the flow of the air better since the stock intake isn't a straight pipe.
