long tubes on a v-6

3 part question, sorry... Im not sure if this belongs in exhaust

Having a V-6, what kind of HP gains can I expect from Mac long tubes? How do they create more power? Can they be installed at home or is it something that requires welding at a shop?

My mods are minimal, Flowmasters and FIPK.

they allow better flow, might see up to 10 hp with a good tune. ill leave this here seeing as the question is specific to the gains of a v6 with the exhaust setup. they are also not difficult to install at all. if you have done some work your self. the hardest part will be getting them in u have to move some shit to slide them into place.

shhhh.......... ive neevr done them on a 6er but on a 4.6 they are hard as hell. i wouldnt think they would be as hard on a 6er since the motor isnt nearly as wide or as big and bulky. could probably do it ina day if youve never done it before

if they are longer than the original header, do you have to cut some of the exhaust pipe?

yes. I have 2.

3 pipes run down and come together and then go all the way to the back. with a muffler on each. One on each side.

From what i can see, it was "cut" from stock.

no kidding? Wow! That would be a surprise. It will be hard for me to get under there and get a good pic. Do you know what the length would be for a short and a long? Maybe I can measure them to see?

I guess this wont help. I really dont know where to start and stop the measurement anyway.

I have to assume the headers are stock. The "appear" to be the same age as the rest of the stock stuff. IDK.

I guess Im afraid of cutting the old stuff. And 2, making them fit right on a V-6 with automatic.

a shorty you can see where it bolts to the mid pipe from under the hood a long tube you would have to look under the car to see where it bolts to its mid pipe.

Long tubes are a great mod for the v6 engine. They not only allow the engine to breath better by keeping exhaust gases hotter through the exhaust system, but the principal of the long tube header is to actually pull exhaust gases out of the cylinder by using the timed pressure wave resulting from energy of the moving gases itself. That's where the phrase "Tuned Headers" can from. The v6 (even fire) engine benefits slightly more from this physics than an odd fire counterpart. With a good tune, 10-15 whp is obtainable. There are little to no benefits from short headers.

does ceramic do something with the heat better than metal alone?

stops it from soaking to the engine bay a bit and prevents corrosion.
