sct tuners
I'm ordering an sct tuner, gears, and 65 mm throttle body next week from americanmuscle.com. They tell me i need to give them the information regarding exactly what mods i have and plan to do to the car. This leads me to believe that once i recieve it that i can only use the pre loaded tunes and cannot go in and adjust it myself. My plan was to have a local shop dyno tune it for me but they said i needed an aftermarket tuner. Is this tuner going to allow for my shop to tune my car on the dyno? or do i need to look into a different tuner. I know a lot of you guys proly have the sct version if you could let me know. Also is anybody running an auto v6 with 4:10's out there? If so whats your rpm's on the highway? Thanks for all your help. sugarfree

If your going to get SCT, get it from Justin @ Vmp
If you give me your tire size xxx-xx-xx then I could calculate your rpm @ xxx speed with 4.10 gears. (auto or 5 speed?) Shoot me an pm/aim

Also with SCT you can adjust some parameters if you get that option when you order it. Most everybody doesn't need the option of being able to do every single thing because if they did their would be alot of tuning noobs playing with the software and blowing up cars.

I work with aftermarket tuners everyday (v&h fuel pack, thundermax, dynojet, power commander, etc...) seeings how i work for a harley davidson service department, i know how they work, i have never heard of a mail order system though where you tell them what you have and they install a pre-set tune. How is that supposed to be accurate? Do they know elevation, air fuel mixture to compensate? I find it hard to believe that the 300+ dollars is actually worth it. When it's a person typing numbers into a computer 5 states away. Will the sniper actually let me see live data? Is it fully customizable? Can you you go in after the fact and make minute changes to your tune? or is it a piece of sh*# like the HD race tuner? So only if my shop has the software for the xcal 2 thats the only way they can tune it?

Whatever your tuner has for tuning is what thay can do. If they are an SCT tuner, you'll need, or they'll provide the SCT hardware (Chip/flasher). Or if you have a chip/flasher from brand xyz, then you'll need to find a tuner that supports that. There is an exception to that. Like in my case, I purchased the SCT full software package (PRP) so I could tune my project at home. I then found a dyno tuner with a good reputation for tuning SCT. However, the shop he was at only did Diablo. So we dyno tuned my car using their dyno and wideband with my software. This was a great learning experience. Learning the tuning software isn't tough when you grasp the concept of how the parameter interact with each other.
Most tuners like Justin can set up a good tune from just knowing your mods. Atmospheric conditions are handled fairly well by the sensors on your engine and the math in the tune. Setting up an aftermarket throttle body is sometimes tricky because it's been reported that their tolerences aren't quite as tight as OEM specs. Still the best way to get a car spot on is by getting it on a dyno and looking at the data. |
