torque specs

1996 and later
Step 1................................................. .........15
Step 2................................................. .........29
Step 3................................................. .........36
Step 4................................................. .........Loosen 2 to 3 turns (DO NOT loosen all the bolts at the same time, from this point on work on one bolt at a time)
Step 5
Long bolts............................................. ...29 to 37
Short bolts ...............................................11 to 18
Step 6................................................. .........Tighten an additional 180-degrees

is that true? why would I loosen the bolts?

looks to be the head he is talking about.

you loosen the bolts a bit so you can assure a flush set onto the block.

looks like the upper / lower intake bolts...is my guess...be more specific though like the others mentioned...also refer to the Sean Hyland guide online if there is a how to online...my friend ordered the Sean Hyland guide and its pretty useful with this subject showing pics and how to's with mustangs/cobras

I am asking about the head bolts. in the chilton manual (what i copied and pasted) it says I have to loosen the bolts 2 to 3 turns before I complete the torque-ing. I wanted to know if this is safe to do and if it is necessary.
