iac gasket modification

i wanted to fix my annoying hanging rpms when i shift and bought some gasket at an auto parts store to be cut in the shape of the stock one but with alittle smaller holes. i read up on some posts on the gt forums about this and im not sure if this would work for my v6. i wanted to know if this is safe to do and what size holes need to drilled if it is safe?

It shouldn't matter as long as youve got a good fit. Make sure you clean all of the gasket from the loose stuff that could damage your iac. Why dont you just buy the one thats supposed to fit?

Interesting. When you say quicker idle you mean faster throttle reponse right?

But didnt he say that he wanted to cut the hole in the gasket a smaller size?

be careful about the gasket thing...

if the hole is very small the engine will starve of air while shifting..

i would just buy the gasket for it instead of doing the mod

this is true. although on an auto a minimal amount of lag will always be present after the tune cuz ur converter has to spin up to match the engine.

making your own gasket will not hurt
but personally for that i'd just use some RTV

clean your IAC with carb or throttle body cleaner. put it on and what i'd do if you wana use the make-a-gasket kit

put some baby powder on a paper...lick your finger and wipe your IAC on the outside where the gasket would go so the baby power kinda sticks

place the IAC on the gasket sheet...and you now have a trace.....(wipe the gasket sheet with a damp towel so the powder can stay while you cut

then CLEAN your IAC again or make sure no powder is on it as well as the gasket.

if your having trouble with cutting it out just use some RTV silcone...high temp...they sell it at any auto store..ask the people there

RTV silcone...with your finger place it around the edge like a gasket would sit...

Seafoam helps out your idle
