yeah i know which pump to get. but do i need anything else. i looked at the cobra tank swap tutorial on here. so do i basically just follow those steps and I'll be fine or is there anything i need to worry about when swapping out just the pump?

Just swap out the pump and be done with it, you could always put a thicker gauge power wire on though. That will allow for less voltage drop.

The Focus pump is a plug-n-play.

dapack69:

Have you heard of any problems with the Focus 310 pump? I think over on SVTPref the talk is using the Ford GT pump instead of the foci pump. Some modifications to the bucket and wiring are required, but they may flow more using less current. And I heard they were cheaper than the Foci.

I have yet to hear of a problem with running the focus pump. How much does the GT pump push? I thought the V6 and GT shared the same pump.

The Ford GT, not Mustang GT.

I need to do more research.

I really have no idea with that at all. I know when you could always upgrade the FDM and that helps with the current.

check this out

i took 2 trips yesterday both on the freeway. the first trip was about 30 miles to there and back home. i had no problems watsover. i took a second trip about an 1 hour later. i drove about 14 miles to get there no problems. on the way back about halfway through my car just started slowing down. i stepped on the gas but nothing. i was in the 4th lane so it was a bitch pull over. finally i managed to get the fuck outta the way of oncoming traffic until my car just came to a stop. i waited about 2 minutes in the trouble lane, then i started the car w/o any problems. i was able to reach the nearest exit. i stopped at mickey ds and grabbed a bite to eat for like 20 min or so then drove my ass home no problems

Good find.

I know I tried for 5 minutes to get the filler tube out of the tank and it wouldn't go. That's why I changed my pump with the tank hanging. In my Ford workshop manual CD it says,"Note: A new grommet must be used for the installation procedure due to its destruction during removal." You have a 2000. May be it's different for my 2002?

The focus pump will burn out on the 99+ mustang, its recomended for the pre 99's

The pump of choice for 99-04 is the 310 from vmp tuning -

uhh the focus pump is a return less style... sorry bud... the svt pump is the most suitable one for the 99s and up
for a 96-98 you will want a 255 lph from walbro

How is a 255lph pump "better"than a 310lph pump?

i think your wrong. the focus pump is intended for returnless style fuel system. the walbro is for return style fuel system. and i think the 310 pump from vmp is the focus pump because its a green top and thats svt

Yes it is. It was pretty easy to change the pump with the tank hanging from the filler tube (but supported with a floor jack). Take your time and keep the top of the tank clean so you don't drop sand and crap inside.

I dont get why you can check SVTperformance for an SVT focus fuel pump and people only have 255 "SVT focus pumps" and not 310s...which doesnt make sense...i thought they had 310s

the SVT has a 310 pump the 255 pumps being referred to are the walbro 255's

they are different systems and require different parts that is all...

while you are under there look into a new filter to just to be on the safe side
