Cold Air Intake on 3.9L

I just bought a 2004 3.9L V6 and am really interested in a cold air intake to add a little power to it. From what I've read both K & N and BBK's are really good but when I'm searching to find one for the right price i seem to only come by 3.8L kits. Is there a difference? Can you fit a 3.8L one on a 3.9? If you can't do they make kits for 3.9? I appreciate any response.

3.8 and 3.9 kits are the same thing.

one tenth of a liter isn't much of a displacement difference.

welcome to the forums.

?????????????????????????????????

uuuuuuuhhh.... what hole???

oh, the extra one? In my K&N, there was a extra hole with a rubber plug in it. I put silicon sealer on the plug to hold it in. It leaked at one point causing the enigine to idle rough.

heres my big fat bastard. Not only does it suck air, it sucks $$ out of your wallet.

I covered the whole thing in thermal wrap and then covered the wrap in metalized tape. The idea was to keep ALL engine heat out. The tube is made of plastic which is a poor conductor of heat anyway. Massive overkill but it was fun screwing around with. I did it to stop the heat related hesitation I was getting. I did leave the box and shroud covered. with the hood down, it creates a great seal so only fender air is being drawn in.

The only design benefit from an FIPK (in my opinion) like this is the massive filter area. The drawbacks are that they feed off of engine air if you dont seal the box and shroud real tight.

UGLY AS HELL. I wasnt trying to win a pretty engine contest. But it did the trick until I developed a leak in that hole refered to above. I had to take all that crap off to find it. After i did that, I never felt motivated to wrap it up again. Too much work.

That metal one from ebay will work great.
I thought Id post this for a good laugh on the subject.
