Oil Pan
Ok, i cracked/shattered the oil pan on the engine of my 3.8 mustang. Maybe i havent looked enough, but its hard to find one on the internet. Im sure mines aluminum... with that said, im told that a steel one wont bolt up to mine. another person tells me that if its for a 3.8, then itll work. I found one on ebay, but it dont really look like the one i need. I dont know if i need to pull the engine to get to it, or the k-frame. Im also told that i can JB Weld it and leave it... i dont feel to safe with JB weld, so i have access to a tig welder and a trained tig welder. I would guess its safe to get it tigged. I am just not sure about what will and wont bolt up to my car.. if a steel one will, then thats great... if it wont, thats ok.. i just want to know if it will or not. also, i just want to know if i have the have the engine pulled or not.
i was also told about pickup tubes or something like that. Bottom line.. i have a cracked/busted oil pan. whats the cheapest way of going about fixing it. Thats for all yalls help, i really appreciate it. |

well if you can get some ramps i don't think the weld job would be that bad. and as far as what oil pan goes on, do you have an auto parts store down there that can cross reference parts? best i know is the ford windstar and f-150 stuff can match up with our engine for some parts but i'm not sure about the oil pan.

Do not weld up your old oil pan!!!!!! I had that done on my cracked aluminum oil pan by a very good welder but welding aluminum is very hard to do especially on the checkered pattern on the bottom of the pan. Mine leaked again and had to be replaced. If you can buy a new one for 65 why the hell wouldnt you do that????
