My 1998 Stang

Hi everyone i'm new to this site

Heres my question.. about five months ago my dad bought a 98 ford mustang 3.8L V6 with 105k miles from a private dealer for under 2k ( worth more then that on kelly blue book) so far it seems to be running perfectly well and no problems at all. Is upgrading this car a little really worth it? If it is what upgrades would you put on it...only thing i think i would do is new cold air intake, new exhaust/muffler and thats it. what do you guys think?

Well to really wake up that pony is to do a cai, underdrive pullies, h-pipe, either some equal length or shorty headers(since we can't use Long tubes), a cat back exhaust, gears, new coil pack distributor, coil pack to spark plug wires, and a custom tune. I think modding out any car is worth it. All cars have potential.

I would throw in some gears with a tracloc and dual exhaust.

The power difference between the midpipes is none, but x-pipes are known for a louder sound at wide open throttle and h-pipes are known to give a good lower sound at idle. With our cars they are just gonna be loud at wot. The distro and wires if you go with Screamin Demon coil packs and Livewires from v6mustangstuff.com that will run you about $199. A cai can be bought pretty cheap off of ebay. I got mine from mustangtuning.com for $69. All the other stuff somebody who has done them will chime in and help you out if they beat AB to it.

Honestly a cai is a pretty easy item to install. It takes less than an hour to take off the old intake and put a new cold air intake on. Plenty of people here to help ya out, and also if your close to the twr you got a good percentage of these boards living near you.

Ok a little more about prices, for intake range 40-240 anything higher then 140 is to much i think, Underdrive pulley looking at around 200, h-pipe around 150ish, headers 250-350 don't know about the 98 style, cat-back 350-450 depend on brand, gears 150-250, trac-lok 150-250, custom tune sct xcal2 400, or if u wanna fine tune it urself the sct xcal2 lc1 for 800

just keep posting ur ?'s.... Me or AB will be around to answer and im sure there may be some others that get to it before we do

don't be shy

I believe this is a great opportunity to learn about you car by knocking out a few things yourself. Also finding a local Mustang club they should be willing to help with some of the things you want to do. Grab a wrench and do it yourself! Fear of failure is far worse than failing!

Welcome to the board. Don't be intimidated by some simple bolt-ons. We all started somewhere. Ask questions, look for info on the interweb, a little common sense and a few handtools and you are on your way. Good luck and report back.
