A question to the dark side...

Hey guys,

I hope you can help me out. I own a 94 Chevy Z28 so I don't know didly about stangs (except what they look like in my rear view mirror L.O.L. :wink ) Just kidding!

A friend asked me how to read the trouble code as his S.E.S light is on. It is a 2000, V6 Mustang. Is there a quick way to do this on a Mustang or is there shareware software available to read trouble codes? I can do it with my eyes close on a Camaro but I don't know the first thing about these Fords. I tried a search but got nothing. Maybe I am using the wrong terms for Ford. Could you help a brother out who is trying to help out a stang owner?

Thanks for letting me visit the dark side for a while!

one option is take it to your local autozone or advance auto and have them scan the OBDII codes for free... the port is located near the driverside floorboard on the center console side, with yours being 94 it is likely you have OBDI.

also his being a 99-00 he has the option of getting a limited amount of data through the gauge cluster for free, read this writeup

when you do pull the codes you can come back here and look them up, but i would sugguest posting them up on this board, somethings like the malfunctioning DPFE sensor could make you think you need to replace the EGR valve due to the code description.
