Weird tranmission problem or is it normal?

OKay I drive an automatic mustang with just over 31k miles on it. Well I recently noticed when im going about 40mph when I let off the gas completely my rpms slowly drop then they take a big drop to about 1k and it feels as if im pressing the brakes for about 2sec then the rpms go back up to 1,200 and the car feels normal.. So it is like my car is stuck in gear or something idk

I know what you mean - Sometimes it feels more dramatic... like its "pulling". I find it to happen more when the AC is on and demanding more from the engine
