the only reason i said the trans is because it could have just been time for it to go out on you. and that loose egr could be part of it but if your idling really low then try rasing your idle a bit. and yes turning the ac on makes it worse because the put strain on the drive train and causes the engine to rock a little bit more. you can make it go away by getting better motor mounts.

I think its time I put video up of this soon and see if its the same situation. I have stock exhaust but its cutoff after the muffler so if I open the drivers door and lean down I can hear my idle pretty good. Sometimes my car also does this noise wear it sounds like its idling ruff as can be then theirs a snapping like noise then it dissapears when in reality the rpm idle doesn't show it. But I allready know my transmission if about to blow apart so your theory could be right. I also have the famous header leaks as well.

this is normal... WOT condition will open the clutch on the A/C compressor freeing up a acute amount of power.

I know that me personally my car doesn't show any codes or cel. It's weird. I will post up a video n monday that will better address the problem... and if its the same problem he is having then we might be able to get this figured out.

ok but this Saturday I am going to replace my Spark plugs and check the egr connections to see if they are tight. Now i read the Haynes Manuel and Something tells me it could be the EGR vacuum regulator.

Since it happened after installing headers look at anything that may be wrong from that. If the EGR tubes are not tightened and therefore leaking it might lead to rough idle. Check that any wires, vacuum lines etc that were disconnected were connected properly.

probably iac needs cleaning. what makes you guys think it would be the trans?

im thinking vacuum lines, egr, or possible routing or spark plug wires (as related to header install)

I'm glad I found this page. I have a 2004 Mustang and my idle will drop to 400 or 500 rpms when I'm stopped. Everything vibrates in the cabin. As far as raising the idle, my Uncle is a Ford mechanic and after looking at my throttle body, he found out it is tamper proof. In the past year i have had a tranny flush, new fuel filter, new spark plugs and wires, K@N filter put on, new belt, and i bought a Tornado.
Also i have had a problem with my car making a 'winding noise.' Usually it goes away after 30mphs. The noise reminds me of a siren from a firetruck when the siren is released and all you hear is the air spinning from it, that is the kind of winding noise i can best relate it to. Let me know if you have any ideas where its coming from.

you need to clear your iac and throttle body.

i figured tranny because after he told me year miles and how it sat there for so long it kinda made since to check the tranny only because when he stoped the whole cabin shook. i had the same problem and all i did was replace the clutch and problem gone. then it came back. had to have it rebuilt and wala gone again.

as for fitting the wrench in there i will tell you what my instructor at wyotech tells me when i have that problem. no one said it would be easy and figure it out. haha sorry man. kick back with a beer and think about it. it will come to you.

and you never know it could be a vacum line somewhere. either way i would strongly consider taking this problem to a garage and have the mechanic ride with you and show him the problem. also just remember mustangs shake. every one i have ever known with a mustang says they shake. some times you get one that doesnt. but most do

Great News, It was the spark plugs. The electrode on every spark plug was worn out. the electrode look like an upside down cone. Also they were torque so much it took two people to get them out. It was hell getting them out. Everyone must remember to GAP YOUR PLUGS. My plugs were not gap properly and i had a ford dealership do them. so be careful were you go. also do not over tight them. it will be hell getting them out. but anyway, my idling is great and i am not having anymore problems. My car even shifts better.
