When you get the starter off you will be able to see the flywheel teeth with a light. You can spin the motor over by turning the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine with a socket & johnson bar. Turn it clockwise bit by bit as you check each section of flywheel. Easier if you have a friend to turn it for you as you look.

p.s. always use jackstands to support the car while you're under it.

just do this and problem solved. no need for useless arguing. whether its the starter or flywheel doesnt matter if he does this, he will be able to check both at the same time. END OF THREAD

wait but no your argument lacks full backing... why would just two points on the fly wheel be damaged if the car was cranked multiple times while it was running... this means that damage would be to the whole starters and or flywheel not just two precise points as you are indicating... ...that leaves the starter to be a more obvious and more likely culprit

i hope he reads mine befor he actually goes to the trouble of taking it off. you might want to some voltage drops across you starter just to make sure there not just something wrong with the wiring on it. a volt meter can save you a shit load of time and money. not saying that it is in the wiring but i would always check that before i go pulling shit off all willy nilly
