Livewire vs Xcal2/3

okay, so what's better, livewire or xcal 2/3? do i still need a dyno with the livewire or can i manage the items myself. also, can it change parameters as the xcal2 can? i believe it shows info which would eliminate the need for gages... correct?

the live wire is the better device.
a dyno will always be the best regardless of what tuning device you buy.
it can change the parameters just like the X2/X3 and it does in fact show most gauges.

isn't it something crazy like the x3 and live wire do alot of the same things except the livewire is in car and has a display??

or does the X3 only do data logging and everything that X2 does ? whats the difference?

the online display and on board data logging is the difference between the X2/3 and the live wire.

well, i was mostly looking at livewire because it eliminated those gages i might need, and it gives a bit more options than the xcal2/3 my car is maybe a once a week car for now, and i dont need a dyno because i dont drive it, but i'd like something that can get me through till i can get one if i need one which is why i thought livewire, maybe i could skip the dyno in the end...

don't EVER skip a dyno tune.
a data logged tune is good to go but it will never be as good as a dyno tune.

I thought about skipping the dyno, just letting justin remote, but I'm still going to be heading to the dyno in about a week.

so where'd you get the remote from? is it "good" enough to sustain until a dyno?

Justin -
You get horrible gas mileage with it though. You would probably save the $ in gas to go a dyno!

I have the Livewire which I intended to use as opposed to gauges however you have to buy map sensors to read PSI or Air/Fuel ratio. The thing I really like about it is that it eliminates having to look at my speedometer. I set it to read Rpms, Vehicle Speed, Engine coolant temp, Air intake temp, PSI and it is really pretty helpful but rather expensive in my opinion. You can also set your Shift Light to go off at your desired RPM setting which I have found to be extremly helpful in boost/wot situations.

The x3 is based upon the livewire, and uses the same drivers and everything. It does do datalogging. It is pretty much the Livewire without the guages.

Gauges 1st grade spelling!

Anyway: The LW also has the "g-tech" type device which gives estimates on hp/tq, it has the performance monitor which lets you monitor 6 different parameters of your car, it has 1/4m estimate, 0-60 estimate, and I'm prob missing a few other things.

Your car needs tuning, thats why it gets bad MPG. You haven't even began the required datalogs for remote tuning, so you can't really complain.

Onto the discussion at hand, the Livewire, X2, and X3 are all flash devices made by SCT. They can come pre-loaded with generic tunes from SCT, or you can get custom tunes from an SCT dealer/tuner.

They all hold the same tunes, however, there are differences in price and features between the devices. The X2 and X3 have a small LCD screen, hold up to 3 programs + stock, and can do pass through datalogging with a laptop and limited on-device datalogging. All currect SCT flashers can be updated with a PC using a regular USB cable. The Livewire adds some additional bells and whistles (along with about $200 additional cost). It has a performance monitor screen that you can use like gauges, and has more advanced on device datalogging, it also have a g-tech type device that measures 1/4mi and 0-60 times. There is also a programmable shift light LED built into it.

You think?
Which is why I said he would probably save enough gas money by just getting a dyno tune. Read before you post.
