Discussing Replacing Manifold... Need Help! in the V6 Mustangs Forum. ok so i'm about to replacemy manifold right now bc it cracked...i need ...

Replacing Manifold... Need Help!


ok so i'm about to replacemy manifold right now bc it cracked...i need help where do i start and anypointers on how to get the manifold out once it's off bc it looks like a tight squeeze. any input is appreciated...thx guys

How mechanically inclined are you. Cause it is super hard and even harder without a lift. also if you don't have an extra set of studs it is a good idea to get some

lol wow super hard?! i think not
ESPECIALLY the passenger side of all.

its not hard but a JACK will be needed....a lift is for spoiled ones..

anyway....jack car up.
unbolt your manifold from the first exhaust pipe(2 bolts or studs, i forget i believe its 14/15mm)
next remove air intake housing so you have access to the manifold
now grab a 13mm wrench and on the side of each manifold pipe you'll see a stud with a nut holding...just take the nut off with the 13mm. once all are off remove the manifold,
now your gonna see a tube that goes from your egr to the manifold...your gonna have to remove it...but now you can decide...if you want to remove it and delete or EGR or not...if not just un-screw it and move on
and place the new one i sold you in. tighten the nuts back on....you might wana get new gaskets. exhaust manifold gasket at your auto store....its not NEEDED but always recommended i didnt do it but i kinda wish i did....

cuz when i was at my store i saw the gasket was 3 layers and i didnt believe it was like that on the car stock...but it was.

anyway once done with the top just go to the bottom and tighten the first bolts you took off and then put your egr tube back in...thats the biggest pain in the ass of it really

You have to be kidding? That or you suck at life, stock manifolds are easy to remove, and replace. NO lift needed -

for your average person it is not an easy task. If you have worked on cars forever yeah it is a simple process but on an older car which has never had its manifold taken off to your normal person it is not an easy task at all I did mine in around 2 hours but not everyone is mechanically inclined and playing with EGR stuff can get you in trouble

You don't have to be mechanically inclined to do it. You just need a brain and a wratchet., a wrench, and maybe some wd40

unless you have never done anything like it before then some instruction on how not to screw your EGR pressure sensor would be nice.

i did this when i was 16 years old in a couple hours- installed long tubes. if i did it then, anyone can do it.

Alright well from personal experience:
The first time I ever changed anything on my car was my long tube headers (harder than STOCK replacements). I did it with a box of POS tools, at about 9pm almost in the dark because when I turned the outside lights on their would be a thousand bugs flying around! Took me about 4-5hours while getting bombarded with bugs.

I was just telling the guy if he hasn't done much with cars it can be a hard experience, especially if he ends up breaking a stud and is stuck without a set

One tip. It will be easier if you remove the exhaust manifold studs from the head. On a 99 there is a hex on the end of the stud that fits a 5 mm socket. I found that made it a lot easier.

it just comes off over the studs, you dont have to remove them.

I don't know if you have to remove the studs, but it seems to me that it is reponsive to his question of how to get it out of the engine compartment, since with the studs removed it comes straight up.

removed from underneath. you need to jack the car and put it on jackstands. that's how i did it, and it is the easiest way, and it is the only way to install long tubes as well.

removing the studs is just wasting your time

yea you can pull it straight up but it takes longer to take off the studs
just pull the manifold out of the studs...thats simple

now your gonna see a tube that goes from your egr to the manifold...your gonna have to remove it..

The reason I did it the way I did is that I didn't have tools to loosen the compression fitting between the passenger side manifold and the EGR tube you mention. So I removed the manifold with that tube attached. Since I also had to remove some exhaust studs to get to the head bolts it was easier to remove the rest of the studs and remove the manifold from the top. I'm not sure what tool one would use to loosen that compression fitting. Perhaps a crows foot. There didn't seem to be room to turn a wrench in there.

i used a crescent wrench (but i have skinny hands too)
