Short Block Time

I am about to build a fresh Short Block.
I'm about to send an 89 SC block to the machine shop to get dipped, punched out 30 over and some new cam bearings. After that it will be time to install brass freeze plugs and Clevite 77 Main bearings. Then I will drop in a 4.2L crank and some 351w eagle I beam forged rods, 8.5 Wiesco forged pistons, with zero gap rings. Final touch will be a better breathing cam and some LS1 beehive valve springs. After that back to the Dyno for an updated tune. I will most likely snap a few pictures as I go...................

couple of questions, i assume you are going with the 4.2 crank either because you bought the supercoupe block by itself or it came with the duracast crank? also if you are using a 89 block which oil pump do you plan on using? last, which shop do you plan on having the machine work done.. because i was debating on driving mine out to harrisonburg to CMRE?

I have a 89 SC Block lying around, which I decided to use for this project. As for the 4.2 crank I got it for $198.74 (new) last week from Ford. As for the oil pump I am going to use a 95 timing chain cover and oil pump. The 95 NA timing cover uses the correct crank sensor and will accept a SC water pump.

cool, because i was gonna say from my understanding the 94-95 sc oil pumps flow much better (around 20%) and are a little stronger.

also is the 4.2L crank externally balanced? if so you should still be-able to re-use your 95's balancer and flywheel?

The 4.2 crank is internally balanced. The 95 NA 3.8 is an externally balanced so I cannot use the harmonic dampener and flexplate, but I have a harmonic dampener and flexplate from a 94 SC, which are for an internally balanced V6. Come to think of it I have a 94/95 SC timing chain cover and oil pump.

wasn't sure about the 4.2's... got both setups right now 99 externally and 01 neutral balanced harmonic dampners and flexlates. can you tell what year a supercoupe block is by looking at it? the one i have has a forged crank, but not sure about the year? castings, timing, block + crank, rear main

The block casting mark is on the driveriside of the block, near the back cylinder. Also there is one on the rear main cap. That looks like a 89-93 Block, as the 94-95 blocks had a windagetray.

E9 = 89
