Probably A Dumb Question...

My wife was just fiddling with the shifter in the car while it was shut off.

It doesn't harm the transmission or anything like that pushing the shifter into various gears while it's off, is it?

My wife was also asking about clutchless shifting. I believe it's called powershifting. "What d'ya'll know 'bout sumthin like that?"

its not bad to do that.. she is pushing in the clutch, right?

and clutchless shifting is just that - shifting without using the clutch.. i wouldnt recommend that though

powershifting is when you push the clutch all the way to the floor, shift gears, and let off the clutch without ever letting off of the gas

No, she's not pushing in the clutch. The engine is not running while she's doing this. She is just pushing it into the positions. No pushing in of the clutch. The stick moves really easily from position to position while she's doing it. It doesn't seem to affect the way the vehicle runs though. No wierd noises or responses from the vehicle when I start it up and put it into gear.

clutchless shifting is all known as power shifting and double shifting. its where you keep your foot on the gas and maintain an rom level then press the clutch kepping your foo on the gas shifting to the next gear then pop it. its suppose to throw the car forward but all it does is fuck every thing up haha. but no moving the stick around when the car isnt on wont do anything. even if she isnt pushing the clutch in it still wont do anything. i asked the same question in my drive train class and they all laughed at me haha. i guess they all knew the answer already haha

+1 it not bad for it as long as everything is off.

and another thing:

there are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions.

Yeah, I figured nothing bad would happen because nothing was moving around in the gearbox, but you never know with some of these things.

I would never try it. Only the best and most experienced drivers have a sweet chance in Hell of successfully performing the move.

ahh.. i just now noticed that you said the car was off while she was doing that..

but yeah, if you time it right, just about anybody can shift without the clutch, but not alot of people can do it without screwing something up..

either way, i'd highly recommend you NOT attempting it, no matter how good of a driver you are.. this isn't directed at you averlus, but come on people, dont be lazy.. just use the clutch to keep from screwing things up..

One more question. Does stalling the vehicle hurt it any? I've been trying to teach my wife to drive it, but she is still learning. There are times when she has stalled it 4, 5, 6 times in a row.
