is there much play in your belt?? you should be able to push it up or down about ... 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch ... don't try this when the engine is running... but just if there is a tiny amount of play your car is fine

i was driving just 10 minutes ago to seattle and i realized that this clunk clunk sound i have been having only happens when i am in 2nd gear or higher and im in 1300 - 2000 rpms. its like a pinging sound on the side of the motor with the alternator. it trie revving it when in neutral and it didnt make the sound.

should i have a ford dealership do a diagnostics?????
