Any Ideas About Clicking Noise From Engine?

Hey there guys, I have a clicking noise coming from my 2000 mustang with the 3.8L and i am wondering where it is coming from. The clicking noise is real loud and present when in gear and under acceleration only. I have ruled a bunch of things and ideas out: 1) It is not the lifters since the noise is only present when in gear and under acceleration. 2) Its not the EGR valve, i replaced that. 3) Its not the water pump, A/C, alternator, belt tight, pulleys and it doesn't have an air pump. The noise seems to come from the back of the engine. If you have any ideas or suggestions, that would be great. Thanks.

get a stethoscope from autozone and put it on or near your injectors, i have a ticking that i thought was coming from the back of my engine but turned out one of my injectors is ticking awefully loud.

Is that only when the car was in gear and under acceleration? Or was the noise always there?

This could be an injector as DGT said, detonation, as tugger said, or worse case scenario, a rod or main bearing....but that would be pretty loud. If you do the stethoscope thing, which is a great idea, you can also try listening to the pan or the cam covers.

+1 on that.

The V6 engine tends to develop carbon deposits in the rear cylinders due to the PCV design. This causes preignition on acceleration. If this is the problem you might benefit from some kind of decarbonizer treatment. I believe some people say that Sea Foam added through the intake will help.

Could it be the lifters? because i found the source of the sound is coming from inside the crankcase. Opened up the oil cap and the sound was coming from right inside there.

try putting some seafoam in the oil/crank case ... sometimes seafoaming oil can clean up sticky lifters
