a well built 4.2/3 will rape you in the butt... if you aren't going to boost it i suggest that you find a local shop that is willing to take it apart and rebuild it... then you supply the parts from ssms or morana and have the shop just rebuild it and do some head work too

might want to edit that dude...

there are so many possibilities when it comes to building your own engine... the most i can do for you is tell you to go to a few linkys that i have posted below and see what you like ... then ask more questions about the posted links

Delk Performance
Super Six Motorsports
Tom Morana Racing Engines

look through those three sites and see what you can learn about engine costs ... this might help clarify your ideas

i would go with the 4.3 from ssms sure you can rebuild but from what i have seen they tend to have problems if you have the moeny go with the 4.3 it new and has nice power

for the swap into your 01 v6 youll need:

-4.2 shortblock or longblock
-Mustang upper and lower intake
-Mustang fuel rail
-Mustang 3.8 water pump
-for auto use your stock or 4.2 flexplate
-4.2 or 3.8 dipstick can be used, just keep track of where 5 quarts of oil puts the mark when refilling.

for the 99-early 00 3.8 youll need more than that tho

don't see why it wouldn't pass smog... its the same engine... give your dmv a call or who ever does smog tests and see if it will or not...

and A3 has a list too
