Wheel/Tire Size Question...

What number am I looking for if i want to keep the tire diameter the same but just change the wheel size? I am wanting to get some 17" black bullitt wheels but I don't want to change how big my tire is. I had a guy from work try to tell me and he made it sound really complicated so I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

well with 17"s the actuall diameter of fthe wheel with the tries are very close the 17s just have less tire wall. but ur not gonna get around it being wider. i went from the stock 15's to stock 17" GT rims and the diameter of the whole wheel is almost the same but i have 245s now

Yeah I know it will have to be wider I just want the wheel diameter to stay the same. From what the guy at work was telling me it sounded like there was one specific number for tire diameter. You know like a 20" tire would have the number 20 imprinted somewhere on it. I just need to know where that number is at.

17s?

245/45/17 is the stock size ... you can give or take 10 on the first number and go 40 on the second number if you wanted to...

here is what those numbers mean because it sounds like your confused, we will use the example OMZ posted.

245/45/17 : 245: the width of the tire(the part of the tire that is touching the ground) .... 45: % of the width(side of tire) 17: the rim size.

that should help you out a little more. the bigger the first number is, the wider the tire, the bigger the second number is the wider the sidewall is and the meatier the tire, and the third number should ALWAYS match the rim size

45 is the % of the width actually... AB corrected me on that i was in the same boat as you man ... we were wrong i guess...

so apparently its close to 110mm tall ... so a 315/35 is going to be the same as 245/45 ... 110 mm

i think i get what your asking. you want to change the second number because that is the sidewall, you are going to want that number to be less than the stock number so the total diameter if the wheel/tire stays the same like you want. if you but from americanmuscle or tire rack they should have recommended tire sizes already for you that will be what you are looking for. and you will change the first number based on how wide the rim is, so if you get 17x8 rims the first number is perfect where it is, if you get like 17x9 then you are going to want that number bigger! hope that makes it more clear for you

remove that spoiler and tint the tails, heads and sidemarkers and that car would look perfect imo
