Ok this is just a suggestion, but if ya can this will be the pretty much the best setup you can go with. Headers...If emissions allow you get some long tube headers UNLESS you plan turbocharging the car. If you plan on keeping the car naturally aspirated, using a supercharger, or using nitrous then go with longtube headers if you can. Then after the headers comes a midpipe. Sixers come stock with a y-pipe which proves to be restrictive. So what your gonna want to do is either go with a h-pipe or x-pipe. No real power differences between the two. H-pipe sounds nicer at low rpms and idle, x-pipe is just louder at wide open throttle (WOT). Now since a v6 is an even fire engine it will sound loud at high rpms no matter what...it will just be loud. After the midpipe you will have a choice of cat back exhaust. Go with some gt take offs such as some from magnaflow or flowmaster. Flowmaster will sound nicer, but magnaflow will give you the most horses. Not a lot, but still more. Also remember depending on the headers you get depends on the mid pipe you get. If you get longtube headers you will need a shorty mid pipe, a pair of shorty headers you will need a longer midpipe.

exactly, there is so much more to an exhaust setup than the sound and the muffler. the flow and the legality of the setup ranges from product to product and place to place.

not ta get u mad, but there's been alot of exaust post with this exact question. usually u have to read more then they ask a question but if u look at previous exaust post you'll get ur answer.

if you want good flow x-pipe
with the good flow you have your main choice flowmaster or magnoflow.

magnoflow has a very lil bit more hp to offer, but flowmaster will give you a better hollow and deep sound

my suggestion, unless your really gunna make your car lik a 10-11 second car just get the exaust, you dont really need the x-pipe, thats wat the guy who did my exuast sed. unless you have alot of hp then its not really needed.

X, H, or no crossover will net same numbers but different sound due to the even firing order of the essex v6 motor.

flowmaster gives a lot of drone and a tinny hollow sound at higher rpms and magnaflow gives 1-3 rwhp more than flowmaster (almost negligible gains) and has a deeper tone.

Remove the catalytic converters if possible to achieve better flow, much better gains, and for a serious setup, get some MAC long tube headers

illegal? do you have emissions? if not, it is legal to remove, but not to sell afterwards out of state in most cases.

shorten length? you would put pipe where the cats were. you cannot shorten the exhaust if you want tips because you need to clear the rear axle assy.

i have no cats because i have long tubes, no emissions, and H pipe and a "cat back". the ideal setup would be long tubes, 2.5" pipes to mufflers- tips optional.

you absolutely cannot use the factory cats, midpipe, catback or any v6 bolt on catback when using long tubes. i bought long tubes, made my own H pipe, and fabricated a cat back to work. very few short midpipes come with cats anyhow because they only work when near high heat close to engine. long tubes fail most visual emissions inspections, and having cats and passing the gas test will even fail if you have long tubes...

you can maybe pay cash to have the cats removed at a shop, but it is illegal to remove them anywhere in the US unless they are malfunctioning and in need of replacement, not deletion. just cut them off and weld some pipe where they were or get to know some people at the shops

kk, about the long tube headers...now that you sed that, its seems like thats guna be alot work and money. would i be better off just getting short tube headers then? is it even that much of a hp difference? cuz if its like 5hp difference i'll just get short tube

you may get 10 rwhp from short tubes, but it is just as much a PITA to swap them, and long tubes are about the same price as short tubes. you just need oxygen sensor extenders, an MIL eliminator harness, a short midpipe and v8 style cat back of your choice. you will get over 25+ a % more power out of long tubes as opposed to stock. you will get much better flow with lts than with sts
