Security Torque Wrench
On the MAF box on the intake tube there those security torque screws.
to remove the screws, can you get those security torque wrenchs at like Autozone or are they something you have to special order? Better yet, is there a way to get those screws out without the special tool? |

i dont know about autozone....but i know you can get the specialty torx wrenches at lowes. you shouldnt have to special order them, but since its a specialty tool, they may not have the size you want an you would have to have them order you a set. If you know the size, id say look online to save you the trouble of running around looking.

I found a set for $10.
They called them "tamper proof stars". WTF? Anyway, I went to 3 stores before finding them. After I bought them, I went home and removed the MAF for cleaning. It didnt look bad until I gently swabbed it with a q-tip. Man, lots of black shit came off to reveal a few shiny wires. I put a little carb cleaner on it and got it even a bit cleaner. Then I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. I figured this might be good to do to let the computer get the new air readings right away. IDK, probably pointless but anyway, it all worked and my idle seems alot better. Its not riding up and down when I slow to a stop. Note- I use a RED K&N oil on my FIPK Filter. I checked the q-tip real close to see if any was coming off the MAF. I will also say that Ive cleaned and resprayed the filter 6 times and this is the first time Ive cleaned the MAF. NOT ONE BIT of red came off on the qtip. That just tells me that if you oil your filter right, it will not make it to your maf and fck things up. Ive always heard alot of myths about the oils screwing up the maf sensor. No red on mine. One last note- My ride has 60k and the maf was disgusting. To anyone that reads this, take note of your mileage. If its higher and never been cleaned, you should do this little project. Its easy and will help a multitude of problems from happening down the road. |
