2006 Std Brake Noise

Just bought my wife a 2006 (non-gt) auto trans.

It currently has 400 +/- miles on it and a metal on metal noise coming from passenger side front tire. Same noise as when your pads have run low, except it's always making the noise with varying degree's of volume and pitch.

When I hit the brakes sometimes the noise softens or goes away altogether then returns immeidiately or shortly thereafter.

We're going to bring it in to a dealership hopefully they're open tomorrow (Labor Day) otherwise Tuesday.

Any ideas?

The noise is coming from the front, so not the e-brake. Could be a stuck caliper, I'd say probably a bearing if it is in fact a metal noise. Either way...

I had the same problem with my 04 F-150 and took it to the stealership to have a brake job done to it, they put it on the rack and told me that the brakes were fine and didn't need to be replaced. I disagreed when the service mgr. told me that the reason you are hearing the problem is that they stopped using the old kind of brakes made from asbestos and are now using the whole new kind of material for brakes. The brakes will crystalize and therfore that is were the noise is coming from. IMO, I would have a brake job done as I did with my F-150 and the noise stopped.

Hope this helps.

Picked up the car earlier. They test drove and heard the problem. Removed the front tire, didn't find anything and put it back together. Test drove again and the problem was gone.

They're guessing a small rock was somewhere within the brake system and it must have fallen out when they removed the tire.

The sound IS gone but I'm not sure I trust the diagnosis, time will tell.
