also ohv's r pushrods same diferance
very good info.

with a ohv pushrod engine like ours the cam down in the block above the crank, the cam lobes push the push rods which in turn controls when the valves open/close.
here is a good reference if anyone is confuses on OHV, SOHC,DOHC

this website and articles on it have alot of information for those looking to learn more about engines and how they work, what parts are and do, and everything else you could think of about engines or just about anything else

so we r ohv? doest that stand for over head valve?

i got confused i need a translator lol

The only DOHC Mustang Motors are the 4v in the Cobras and Machs. Remember. The v-block engines have 2 heads. Even though I have 2 cams. I have one cam per head.

3.8-3.9 = ohv (1 cam total)

4.0 = SOHC (2 total)

4.6 2v-3v = SOHC (2 total)

4.6-5.4 4v = DOHC (4 total aka - quad cam)

SOHC would mean we have 2 cams
DOHC would mean we have 4 cams.
because of the V block design
DOHC- 2 cams in the head 4V or 3V heads
SOHC- 1 cam in each head 2V heads

3V's are still SOHC
