Cam And Heads Installed Now A Wierd Noise From Intake?

Helping a friend of mine install his cam and heads. Long story short...
Got it all done and buttoned up but now there is a strange sound coming from the air intake. Sounds like a tuba!! LOL (sorry buddy). We took the thing apart and put it back together a few times and can't seem to figure it out.

New parts are port and polish heads, new cam, new adjustable rockers.

Almost sounds like a gasket vibrating but we have double checked those with no luck.

Any idea's?

what year stang is this... have heard of some getting a strange noise after installing the IAC backwards... but also when you say air intake are you talking about noise coming from the manifold or from the intake air tube? did you recheck the vac lines

It's a 2002. The noise is generated from the the manifold I believe. We have checked all the vacum lines. Took the CAI off and you can still hear it from the throttlebody. We also to the egr off and still made the noise. Checked the brake booster as well. Taking the upper and lower intake manifolds off again to check for the third time...

Any additional thoughts on what to check?
Not sure on the Rockers...Comp Cam (for sure) 1.73 (not sure)

would probably put money on the IAC causing it, have heard this once on an explorer 4.0L and it sounded very similar to someone blowing across a beer bottle. i would try cleaning it to see but if it doesn't change replace it.

Isn't the IAC on the CAI elbow? If so we took that elbow off (yes no maf, dangerous) and it was still making the noise through the throttle body. One other odd thing... when the car is cold (first start) no noise for a couple minutes until the car heats up and then it starts and stays. Seems to go away momentarily when you punch the throttle (engine sucking air).

the IAT (intake air tempeture) sensor is on the CAI tube, the 99-04 3.8L mustang IAC (idle air control/bypass) is on the side of the upper intake (near passenger rear of enginebay). here is what mine looks like, yours is the same:

IAC pic1
IAC pic2

there is a gasket if you are careful sometimes it can be reused.

OK, the problem turned out to be the IAC like you suggested so thank you very much for your help. The tuner had to adjust it when he tuned the car. You guys asked for the results so here they are....

228 rwhp and 238 rwtq
Tuned by Big Shot Dyno out of Akron, Ohio.

I'll post his track times with it after Sept 18th (we'll be up at Norwalk running them)
