tranny is getting to hot because the fluid is leaking out like you siad so there is not enough in the tranny to keep it cool

Sometimes that light flashing can be a notice of damage to the trans, sometimes it's just getting too hot and it's trying to tell you to stop. Only way to find out which one it is happens to be going to a dealer and paying for an external diagnostic of the trans (an internal is way too much, the pull the trans out take it apart and tell you whats broke) or call trans shops in your area and ask them if the can communicate with the trans module (they should know what you mean, if they don't run away, but if they say something like "what, like talk to it's computer" they should be ok). The trans module can store codes that doesn't turn on the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp a.k.a. check engine light) that can tell you what is happening inside the trans, or maybe even outside (if it's a shift solenoid, or an electrical circuit). If changing your fluid AND fixing your leak doesn't stop the flashing, or even if it comes back, seek professional help from a trans guy. Transmission are a very specialized field and only a few survive, when it comes to the technician's that want to work on them, you have to be very good at what you do to make it when it comes to transmissions. The longer a shop has been around the better, don't be afraid to ask a shop or a dealer how long thier #1 trans guy has been there, if he's been there about a year, they wanted to keep him (send me a message if you want an explination). I'f he's been there less than six month's ask why, if they say that thier old guy left, ask where he went, if the old guy quit or was fired END THE CALL SOMEHOW AND FIND ANOTHER SHOP, that means that either they are a shady company or thier #1 guy totally f***ed someone's trans. Hope this helps.....

well the reason it shifted hard is cause your leaking all the lubrication out of it. You need to get that leak fixed

well other things could be getting hot or your torque converter may not be filled

Sorry bout the thread jack... but I have some of the same problems. The only thing is that my OD light has never come on or flashed.

Its kinda like my car is on its period. I noticed that (not everyday) but every other day or so there will be a drop or two of red fluid under the car where the center console is located. The most I've ever found was like the size of 4 quarters. My shifting seems normal except sometimes if feels "sluggish" when I'm coasting to a stop. Like it feels tight. Its hard to explain. Maybe like when you have the OD on and the A/C and you feel that slight power loss. Of course it "knocks" sometimes too. If I put it into first and drive down the road, it knocks when I let off the gas.

I put some additive crap in it (just a little to see if a minimal amount would slow or stop the leak) and it seemed to help but there is still "spotting" on the Garage floor.

Fluid levels look fine and the fluid is very clean looking/smelling.

Any ideas on this? Like I said, its similar to the problem WBIK has.

Also, how do you ensure the TC is filling correctly?
