CAI Questions

yeah i know this has been asked before but i havent gotten one yet so i dont remember the info i need

anyway, is the tunable induction cai worth the money over a cheaper one?
i.e. the 2 TI intakes on the this page, they worth it? http://v6mustangstuff.com/engine.htm

also, is this worthless - "Kenne - Bell Ram Air Induction Kit 94-02"
its on this page: http://v6mustangstuff.com/engine2.htm

i figure the TI is a better item to go for, but just wanted second opinion.

i chose ebay with a k and n filter. i couldnt justify spending more than 50 bucks for a cai. plus, i plan on supercharging in the future- or a bigger motor

I know for a fact that with the Kenne Bell you will only want that on your car while you are on the track as it will eat up any and EVERY piece of debris and WATER you come across. Had a friend that hydro locked his celica with the same type of intake. As for the "tunable" Intake I always thought the only way you could "tune" an intake would be to flash the chip and maf settings or change the MAF to something bigger. I may be wrong but it seems like BS to me. I don't think you should have to worry about your intake until you are pegging your MAF then it's time to upgrade. A basic cold air should work for you for now.

"un"tunable? i thought 'tunable induction' is just the name of the company taht makes the cai. not that its actually something you can 'tune'....

Therefore untunable would work for that since it cannot be tuned correct? I never heard of a company called tuneable induction...

Just looked it up and it is the same setup as the JLT densecharger. I like JLT better though because he is local and I know him. But yes by all means I would go with the tunable intake. When did these guys come out? Was it recent?

anyway, im thinking soon the next things i want (need.. ) are the cai and tuner (im thikning the sct xcal2). so if i get this intake (the full length i assume) will i need anything else? i dont know THAT much about the details of intake systems... do i need a new air meter and what not or do i just get the tube system and slap it in.

not sure why they call it "tuneable" because it's not... it is a true bolt on so all parts are included, no need to replace MAF.

forget the RAM AIR kit, realistically you will have to get up to about 80+mph to see any gaines from it. I wouldn't worry so much about debris since you still use the air filter and have a MAF screen, but water damage is likely... if you want RAM AIR get a CDC shaker kit.

it is tunable because you can run filter after MAF (standard), regular CAI with filter in fenderwell, or add the last tunable extended piece that takes the filter lower towards the fog lights.

tunable induction is densecharger for the most part, and it is plastic (not metal) so it won't heat up as much.

gains for CAI are minimal, but the smoother pipes and better filter are worth it for under a couple hundred bucks IMO

i ran a ram air setup on my car for a while and at speeds over 90 my check engine light would come on and blink. i dont know if i messed up my A/F ratio, took in too many CFMs- i dont know. But the filter got dirt quicker so i dropped ram air and went fenderwell CAI without MAF screen.

So once again it is not "tunable" per say it just has extra pieces for relocating the filter... I got ya now...

yep. and that is how they say it is "tunable" if you buy the "full length kit" you can "tune" it at 3 different settings.

i dont want to beat this question to death, but one more thing - how is the k&n fipk as compared to the tunable induction unit (full length). ?
i dont care about the look of it, only performance.

plus, is about 160$ a good price for the TI unit? the fipk ive seen for over 200.. thats why i was asking about it

get the TI; it is longer, both are black plastic, and you will like the TI more.
