99 Mustang fuel pump problem?

This morning the Mustang started and ran very rough for a moment then died and now won't start. I suspect a fuel pump problem.

I haven't noticed before, but when I turn on the ignition switch I understand I should hear the pump run for a few seconds. Should I listen at the fuel pipe with the cap off?

I know there is an inertia switch in the trunk left side also there is evidently a fuse. Anything else to check if the pump isn't running? I understand that starting in 99 there isn't a fuel pump relay, but some sort of a control module. Anyone know where that is located?

I would swap out your fuel filter first.
if you can hear the pump turn on odds are that is is working.

check your fuses relays and switches to make sure that they are all good... after that check to make sure that you can hear the fuel pump ... if everything is quite its really easy to hear... sounds like a very small electric motor and should only last 1-3 seconds...

An update.

I found I could hear the fuel pump running and fuel pressure appears normal at 45 psi.

I found that there was only intermittent spark on some plug wires and none on others. I removed the plugs and they all smelled like gasoline. I plan to replace the coil, wires, and crank angle sensor and see if that helps.

check your oil just to be sure that any unburnt fuel didnt get forced past the rings into the crank case. my escort did this and it fucked the whole bottom end. i had a plug electrode fall of mid cruse didn't notice till i parked it and tried to restart it.

you had to have had some blow by in the engine previously or the compression or piston rings were bad because those pistons are sealed if not your oil pressure would be outstandingly high. or there was scoring or wear in the cylinder along the walls

as for the problem in the thread one way to check the fuel pump if that is it
have someone try to start the car and bang/hit the middle of your gas tank (thats where your fuel pump is) if it starts more then likely something is wrong with your fuel pump
i'd change the fuel filter first though and at least check the spark plugs and spark test the wires
if your spark test the wires and dont see a BLUE line(electricty) the wire or coil is no good
if you try new wires first and still dont see the blue line more then likely your coil is no good.
i'd just grab a screamin demon coil since its about the same price or cheaper then OEM from ford or an auto store i believe

As I said, I found normal fuel pump pressure and gas on the spark plugs, so I think I'm getting normal fuel delivery.

I checked for spark with an inductive pickup timing light. It definately indicated intermittent spark on some wires and none on others.

I replaced the coil and saw no change.

I will replace the wires next. The first set I got were not the correct wires, but I swapped them for a set that seems to be right.

I also ordered the crank angle sensor.

My car did that for a while I changed my fuel filter, and it ran shitty like twice after that but eventually it just stopped.

It's running again, but I'm not really sure what was wrong.

I replaced the coil, wires, and crank angle sensor and it still was cranking and trying to start but wouldn't go. I was going to have it towed to a shop and the tow truck driver cranked it for some time and got it going again. His diagnosis was water in the fuel which is consistent with the hard rains we've had around here.

I added a can of Heat to the gas and will run out the entire tank of fuel. Hopefully I won't have more problems.
