Custom vs Kit exhaust

ive heard that gettin a shop to custom the exhaust is better than just gettin a cat back from MAC of Flo
why?

Thats not entirely true. if you just change the exhaust then you can have the shop put a true dual mid pipe and get rid of the y-pipe. Or you can buy a mid-pipe that allows the bolt up of a true dual setup and go that route. if you plan on gettin shorty headers later. Best thing would be to save up and do LTs mid-pipe and true duals all at once

The real reason is that it's cheaper to have it done custom, and you have more options as far as pipe size, exhaust tips, etc... Plus you know everything will fit just right cuz it's made to fit your car. However, unless the shop doing the work has a mandrel bender, it is better to buy a true dual kit. There aren't any shops in VA with a mandrel bender, so my best option is the kit. The key is you want mandrel bent pipes. If you can find a shop to do it it's cheaper...if not you'll have to pay a little more for the kit.

custom is better because it is cheaper, and you can pic out what you want, and get the sound you want, and pretty much all shops have mandrel bent pipes i dont know of any that dont do mandrel bending now

I have done a lot of research and calling around. There are NO shops in the whole state of VA that have a mandrel bender. A mandrel bender costs like 200K so not a lot of shops have 'em. Most shops no longer crush bend their pipes, but they are not mandrel bent either. Non-crush bent pipes are better than crush bent, but not as good as mandrel bent.

BTW GreenFaleen I'd love for you to prove me wrong on that cuz I'd rather have a custom exhaust than pay $400 plus install for the flowmaster kit I want.

ya very few shops have mandrle benders because it is not worth it. because for most cars it is cheeper to buy the kits that r sold as aposed to paying a shop to do it, there for there is a very low demand.

No, I'm paying $400 for the kit. Plus install (which is like $120)

I have a custom exhaust on mine. Got a H-pipe and Dual flows. The shop used some of my stock piping to make the H... so its a H but the part in the middle is slanted... If you know what I mean.

Custom is better imo, mainly because like they have said above, you can choose what you want... and customize it more if you want.

Custom is cheaper because there is less quality. I would rather pay more for quality, and a kit with a warranty from a known company than to take a gamble. Also Warlord...where was Faleen arguing against what you said?

Id rather pay more from a company who gives me a warranty, and the pieces are made to fit my car, than to take it to an exhaust shop where the piping they will use will end up rusting faster than what I paid for from the larger company. Call me crazy, but I like quality.

Either save a dime, and have it rust on you

or save up, and pay up for quality.

All of the shops in my area do Magnaflow, MAC, and Flowmaster.. they also do mandrel bent piping.. and it doesn't cost 120 to get a catback installed.. If I would of taken my H-pipe, and catback to them it would of been 80 bucks.. that includes hangers and welding in where it bolts on.

Like cricket said you pay for the quality of the material and they stand behind their product. The tips also start at the axle, where if you get a custom exhaust if you look at the back from the right angle on 99% of mustangs you can see where the tip ends..

Like all things dealing with cars.. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Not to say I didnt consider getting a shop to fab me up a H-pipe and a flowmaster cat-back

Who there........custom is not necesarilly less expensive.....my custom setup from the headers(shorties) all the way down to the tips is actually the same price.....its a side exhaust though......so i guess it all depends on the kind of setup!!!
