So does that mean I could buy an 05 8.8 and then take some parts off my 7.5 and make it work?

No. The 05 rear end will not work in a 79-04 car without fabrication in the upper control arm department. It would be much better to use a 79-04 rear end in a 79-04 car. The 05 rear ends have one upper control arm mount (rear end ear). The 79-04 cars have two.
To use the 3rd link upper setup in a 79-04 car, you would have to convert your car to a 3-link setup, which would involve fabricating an upper control arm mount that bolts to the body in the middle of the tranny tunnel. And then you wouldn't have any left-to-right location of the rear end, so you would have to add a panhard bar and brace setup. Incidentally, I just added a ton of 05+ Mustang rear suspension and adjustable control arm mounts to the already hefty 79-04 stuff I carry in my Ebay store. |

It's not that old...
A 9 inch has a worm-gear type meshing of the two gears, and has heavy internals. This adds up to much more parasitic loss of power. In all out racing, with everything inside the 9 inch replaced with racing parts, it becomes a very strong rear end design with easily replaceable gear chunks. But for everyone else, it's a loser. It also has the upper control arm ears in the wrong location for proper geometry in a 79-04 car. A Fab 9 housing is the only right way to do that, that I know of. 6 cylinder cars could probably due just fine with the 7.5 rear end, but if you want to upgrade, a regular 8.8 with a TA cover, new gears, and some axles should be overkill. |

if anyone hasn't answered it yet, no.
i think our rear ends are a tad bit wider then the new edge ones. it really sucks for ya'll i can get an 8.8 with 4:10's installed, t lock (obviously), and the v6 yolk for my car, for only like 900
