Overdrive ?

First off what is the O/D button on my auto shift knob? What is O/D? And is my car faster with it on or off and is it safe to have it off...

it's an extra gear is all.

keep it on.

ya leave it on helps u save gas buy esenchaly adding a 4th gear

yea, saves gas doesn't really do much to the performance at all...don't worry about it

ever otice when you take overdrive off the rpms go up?
it doesent add a 4th gear its a 4sp automatic with od

It simulates a differnet ratio basically the easiest way i could expain it
like say you need to tow something
take od off and itll be a lower ratio alowing your car to tow it easier

BTW the owner's manual tells you all about your overdrive if you're really interested.

The 4 spd automatic goes: 1st, 2nd, drive (3rd), O/D (4th). The automatic does not have a gear 4 drive and gear 4 overdrive....how the hell would that work?

o/d is 4th gear. with overdrive off, you run as a 3speed auto. at least this is true with the 4r70w/aode...
