Newb Question: About Shifters

What does " Shorten the throw of your gears by 40%" mean?
Also, is the shifter worth upgrading?

A short throw shifter is just the shifter mechanism with a shorter arm. If you look at two side by side the short throw will be shorter. They help you with quicker shifts. A short throw is a love it hate it kind of mod. I've noticed some people will always change them on their car, and others will stick with the stock. If you do upgrade it go for a spring loaded shifter. Something like the steeda tri ax. Also if your not too comfortable with a manual tranny I would leave it alone for a while, since they make the shift pattern tighter.

yes, a shifter is a great upgrade. the short throw means that you will physically move the shifter handle a shorter distance in order to complete the gear change

in my opinion take another 1/4 of second to shift wont kill u, or if ur fast. unless your doin 1/4 mile runs and ur a lil more serious then yea. idk though i always thought it wasnt worth
but orangeRcode and twist 2 go say its good so it might be, ive never used one but thats my outlook on it.

If you had driven a car with an aftermarket shifter you would see the difference. The stock shifter is designed to be quiet and shift at a moderate pace. They generally have some sort of rubber bushing/additional insulation to accomplish this. This lends itself to a mushy, vague feeling shifter. An aftermarket shifter will feel much notchier and allow you to make quicker shifts due to the heavily weighted gates. There is nothing wrong with a stock shifter but if you are serious about bagging gears, it is a relatively inexpensive mod that will go along way reducing missed shifts. The only drawback is the aftermarket shifter may make more noise. You can reduce some of this with a rubber gasket in place of the RTV.
