Synthetic

is it bad to switch to full synthetic oil on an engine that already has 54,000 miles on it? i bought the stang at 48,000 and i have been running castrol syntec blend. Im due for an oil change and want to put in mobile1 this time. Someone told me that you should not run full synthetic on an engine that hasnt always ran on synthetic. i think they have no idea what they are talking about. i have seen any warnings or disclaimers on synthetic oil. so is this true?

i call bs but i just want to make sure.

Id say bs. 54k isn't that many miles. If you were considering it on a car with 100k or in that area I'd say don't do it just in case there is some sludge in there holding a seal. However I'm sure that you will be alright changing to synthetic from blend on your next oil change.

synthetic oil isnt going to break down sludge. just has a less chance of causing sludge

theres nothing wrong with using synthetic oil no matter the milage

go for synthetic it wont hurt especially if youve been using a synthetic blend. The only time you wanna use non-synthetic is the first 1500 break in miles on an engine, but personally I say go with castrol syntec full synthetic, cause IMO mobile is crap castrol is the best oil out there next to royal purple and other High performance oils.

now, if you are running synthetic, is there a engine flush product out there that will allow you to go back to blend or pure conventional?

Whoever told you that is full of crap.

Go ahead and run the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and you will be fine.

no need just drain and and fill with the blend like you normally would do a change, there isn't really a huge difference in the two oils other than how the hold there viscosity under extreme situations and how easily they flow, one is just have a base from dead dinosaurs the other has a man made base.

Hmmm.. I heard that once you go synthetic, you could not go back, because the smaller molocules in the synthetic obsorb into the metal and rubber seals and that the bigger conventional molocules would not properly protect the metal once the synthetic molocules were there.

thats bs, but why would you want to stop using synthetic anyway? plus when you use synthetic, you dont need to change your oil as often...just the filter. You can get away with over 10k miles on a good synthetic.

yeah synthetic just has a base that will keep its viscosity in colder/hotter climates where a 10w30 conventional in extreme cold will be closer to a 15w 30 or extreme heat a 10w10 versus a synthetic 10w30 in the same situations will stay a 10w30 and you can go a bit longer but its still smart to keep it to a maximum of 5000 miles per change

it take alot longer for synthetic to break down...for the price you pay for it just change your oil filter.

personally I wont put any oil but castrol in any of my cars, my scion come with three free oil changes and I take in 5 quarts of castrol syntec for them to put in cause I dont like other oils valvoline is probably my least favorite aside from crap gimic oils like pennzoil and Q from quaker state.
Only oils I will use are syntec, royal purple, and redline

yeah, but it still gets dirty and carries stuff the the filter cant catch, and with walmart selling syntec for 20 bucks for a 5 quart jug I'll just buy it every 5k miles lol

if your not driving it much it might be ok, Ive seen some horror stories with unchanged oil though 3 months is the longest it stays in my car
