Tuner really worth it?

from what i see you can only change so many things with a tuner, your probably better off going to a dyno and getting custom tunes, am i in the wrong ballpark with this?

You are indeed in the wrong ballpark.
I would get one.

if everyone says that these "canned tunes" are no good, then why still invest in a tuner? besides the diagnostic side of it.

because when you buy a tuner, they ask you for what mods you have and made you custom "canned tunes" but also when you go to a performance shop and have it dyno tuned you can store that tune on your handheld tuner, so you can switch to that when you need a more ratical tune for the track or whatever or you can switch to a less radical tune for fuel economy

you can make custom tunes as well.
Send your tuner a data log file and he will make one for your car.

the tuner has the capability of using canned tunes, but if you want a dyno tune you can put that in the tuner, and if you are getting an extreme dyno tune, driving with that tune all the time isn't the best idea always

if you dont know what your doing and dont have an a/f or a dyno or something to read whats going on with your spark then DO NOT change parameters

you can lean out or make your car run rich
running lean is worse
horrible on the cylinders and pistons, performance
and running too rich for to long can cause so much carbon it can clog your cats
then you'll literally have just a blocked air way you'll notice your car getting slower til its fully blocked or blocked so much it wont idle or start normal or at all!

not to mention pollution to our earth

lol well i didnt mention that you'd have to be running pretty rich for a while!
but running lean can cause horrible problems FAST
just dont play with the parameters that deal with spark and airfuel

I think I may be running lean after installing my BBK CAI. The original they sent me, kept setting off my CEL. Codes read that the mixture was lean on moth banks, but after calling BBK, they sent me a new air tube that was choked down a little on where the MAF sensor plugs in. As stated in another post, the engine knocks on hard accelerations, but my CEL does not come on. SHould I be worrid that I am still runing too lean since it knocks on acceleration BTW, I did move up to 89 Octane and that seemed to help the knocks a little. I probably will not be able to afford a dyno tune for a couple of months or so.
