Paint!!

Alright guys heres my game plan. Right now I am in the process of getting all the lil dents, dings and dimples out of my car. Afterwards Im going to be sanding the car down and prepping the rest of it for paint. However, I will be doing the inside of the trunk, the underneath of the hood and the door jams myself. My question is how should I go about spraying the door jams? Ive heard to take the doors off completely and then Ive heard not too cuz I will never get them lined up properly again. Any suggestions, comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Also any input on what all I should do to prep the car for paint would be awesome as well! Thanks guys!

as for prepping the car to be painted are you going to shoot the primer or will the paint shop be doing that?

and i would take the doors off. you can align them properly it will just take time and be aggregvating. i would rather spend the time and be aggrevated and have my jams looking great then have them looking half assed

you'll wanna take the doors off or overspray is going to be a bitch to mess with, if your trying to learn I recommend stripping the car yourself and let the shop paint the jambs and stuff and you paint the fenders and other small things you can take off the car and learn to spray with,

I would advise that you take off what you can... it will make for a slightly cleaner look in the end... BUT if you can't take items off then dont... also doors are a BITCH to get on and off so take your time with them and make sure you have a buddy and an impact wrench

paint

dont get over your head with body work, painting can be a bitch and the littles mess ups will show and drive you crazy, as for if you cant take the stuff off, get trash bags and painting tap and cover off EVERYTHING!!! and if you dont have a booth, homemade or otherwise, dont paint near anything, overspray will get absolutely EVERYWHERE!, so take your time and make sure its bullet proof, take a spray bottle with water and spray down everything after you think you think youve marked off everything and you dont think overspray can get anywhere, spray everything and then check to see if the water got anywhere, then make sure everything is wipped off and completley completely dry and hammer down

man pay the shop for the jams they re hard as hell to spray especially if your a perfectionist like me and will strip the paint and redo it like 6 times, engein bay and trunk aren't bad but door jams are annoying.

yea, doors are severely annoying to get on and off and alligned and everything but it would be worth it in the long run...i speak from experience, you just have to mess with them...and don't forget to get mad as hell at them, too. lol

after i get the car painted im going to sell it. how much you think i can get for a 96 mustang base model 5 speed with around 110,000 miles on it. i replaced the head gasket on it and the heads, changed out the throw out bearing and did some other lil minor shit to it already. other than the paint the car is in pretty good shape....what would be a decent starting price?

It probably isn't worth it for you to paint it, unless your paint job is just total shit. I can see doing it if you're keeping the car. However, the extra money that it would bring in on the sale of the car wouldn't be much if any more than what you're paying to paint it.

4k sounds like a good amount ... if your lucky you might be able to get 5k out of the car but thats a slim to none chance
