knocking or not knocking?

OK guys. Before I installed my BBK CAI for my 07 V6 stang with 22k miles, the engine sounded very throaty in 4th gear at mid - WOT. When I installed the CAI, the throaty sound not only got louder, but it continued in the same throttle range, but now 2nd - 4th. 1st & 5th gears sounds clean. I guess I may have confused this throatyness as knocking, but am not sure. Is this knocking/throaty sound normal? My 05 v6 4.0 Ranger did not sound like this and this is my first stang so I have nothing to compare to. I started noticing this a few months ago at around 15k miles. I also removed the CAI and the sound is not as loud, but still present 2nd - 4th gears. Also, this is a manual tranny. Thanks

I also checked a few of thew plugs, and they electrode and conductor look a little ashy white. I change the oil religiously at 4k miles.

when I say "throaty/knocking, it sounds like a hole in the exhaust comming from the engine.

yeah, I already set the computer. I checked out a few other blogs and AFM.com says that this is a known issue that Ford says is normal. So I guess I have to coat my entire engine compartment with noise absorbing foam. LOL

BTW.. The new KITT is BAD ASS!!!!!!!! The show may suck, but the car is hot!

someone on one of the other posts said that it was driveline resonance, which I could believe since the V6s tend to shake like a SOB.
