Nope, you have a 4R70W transmission. That stuff there won't work.

I can help you with that by the way. You can give me a call if you want at 317-514-0816 and I can fill you in on what is available for your car.

no he doesent

the 99+ came with the Fully electronic automatic overdrive transmission dubbed the 4R70W
Everything before had a standard automatic
Hence Why you need to change a gear in the tranny to effect the speedo

I say this with all due respect, but you need to do a little more homework. The 96 and newer Mustangs came with the 4R70W transmission. I kind of do this work professionally. LOL

That one would work. Not my favorite, but it will do.

LOL...

I would buy neither. But I am obviously biased and say that from knowing how these kits do what they do.

To me it all comes down to makling the transmission work better in a way that will actually make it last longer, not just making it bang as hard as possible on every shift at all throttle positions. That hurts the transmission and driveline components.

You referred to yourself as someone who does this for a living? I was told by my uncle who works on transmissions that you can get the same effect with a tuner as if you used a shift kit....good or bad info?

a shift kit is designed to increase valve body pressure, which in turn speeds up the automatic clutch. = longer automatic clutch life. and added valve body life.

Also a tuner can have the same effect. but a shift kit is better for the benefit of a longer living tranny with the same results as a tuner. for the 99+ stangs.

PS> provided your tanny, drive line and suspension are in good working order and undamaged. it wont case a problem. there are HUNDREDS of guys on here with shift kits. working fine still.

this is true you can get the same effect from a tuner on 99+ stangs.

Yeah, this is what I do. Actually you can see some of my work in the January Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords on page 168 where HP Performance used my stuff to swap a 4R transmission into a Cobra.

To directly answer your question, you can't get exactly the same thing with a tuner. Honestly, a tuner can hurt things since it jacks up the line pressure instead of adressing the actual fluid flow. This can hurt the transmission. Kind of the same thing that several of the 'shift kits' on the market do as well.

You can get harder shifts with that stuff, but there are much better ways. The tuner by itself is not the best for sure.

"The J-Mod shift modifications were designed by a Ford transmission engineer, these modifications allow for faster shifting and extended transmission life."

Source, one of MANY

nuff said

B&M and J-mod (Ford) are both fine choices that will extend tranny life. id go with B&M tho. we know the quality of ford parts can some times be less then great

That depends on what you want to do. On several cars we have made them considerably quicker with the right automatic setup. More than one of them went a full second quicker than it did with it's old manual setup. Muscle Mustangs covered the swap we did into a Bullitt where that car literally skipped over the 10's. He had run consistantly in the 11.0x second range and after the auto swap and getting the tune down right he was putting out consistant 10.0x runs. The same guy tuned it with both the auto and manual setups and really the only changes in the tune were to account for the automatic stuff. Did have to change computers though since the manual computers won't run a full auto setup unfortunately.

i just wanna add that if your drive your stang in the snow... a tuner is a better option because ur not going to want to have solid shifts in low traction situations. or your going to get some wheel spin and fish tailing.
