Favorite T-Lok Brands


Hey again guys another newb post haha but well i know there is a search function up there and tried finding some good opinions on T-Loks other than needing to get one and they are awesome lol.

So i was curious ive been wanting to get gears/t-lok already got my gears question answered from another thread someone started i posted in since mine is a manual going with 3.73 but i had a question about T-loks. Are there any preferred brands? I know ford racing has some but no idea if they are any good and didn't see any reviews on them or anything anywhere from searching in google.

Just worried i will get too much power eventually for my own good and mess something up really bad i guess but sorry if this has been talked to death i'm sure it has but many many pages on these forums lol. Appreciate any opinions.

what kind of power do you plan on? if your at the put where a ford t-lok ( t-lok is fords name for a Limited Slip Differential(LSD)) is going to fail then you need to just upgrade to a 8.8 rear end with a Detroit locker or an eaton diff. For a mild bolt on car youd be fine with a t-lok from ford

i'm sure one day i will end up getting a supercharger or a turbo so i will have a lot more power. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just strengthen the rear end i have if i was planning on doing that? and yah forgot that T-lok was fords name for it. Anyone used them before they hold up well? It really worth getting a new rear end set up like Green mentioned?

Yah AM only has the 8.8 Speed concept has the 7.5's

Also have been trying to find out how much the 7.5's can handle as far as engine HP but so far no luck on good estimates, it should be more traction jacking up a rear end i'm sure but kinda hard to estimate

well you can only upgrade the 7.5 so much, if you truely plan to make over 280hp and launch it at a drag strip then you will want to get a 8.8 with a nice LSD in it, the 7.5 t-lok will out last your rearend and personally id rather have a LSD that will break before my rearend lol

Lol yah no kidding. Well this raises a new stupid question haha. How would i go about changing to an 8.8 i'm still learning about cars and all that so not entirely sure. Right now i'm probably around 240 or 250 i haven't had the chance to dyno it yet to find out for sure but should be around there somewhere

you can buy an entire 8.8 assembly and choose what gears you want preinstalled from some places. i think speed concepts you can do that.

So with an 8.8 assembly anything else i would have to change since this is a v6 because i know they use the 8.8's on the gt's so thats how they are advertised

Thank you shadow and thank you to everyone who has posted a reply i try not to post dumb stuff and search and all that because it gets on my nerves with other forums on repeated questions and all that but still learning a lot with cars and its pretty hilarious on how addicting modding a car is i swear i got the v6 originally not really into cars just loved the mustang and started with something small and i was like wow this is fun lol

7.5 can handle 280+ no problem ... torres is runnin 8.7 psi through his engine and both the engine and rear end are holding together fairly well... also a little side note... if you wanna stick with the 7.5 then go with a tru trac... they will run about 500 for the unit but can handle more power... and if any one wants to start bashing on them... 97TM is runnin 16 psi on a V2s with a built car... no problem...

and if you think that the 28 spline is the issue go ask the GT guys how much power before those snap... they will tell you upwards of 3-400 horse power...

the 7.5 is a nice rear end no need to spend a lot of money on a swap just use what you have

i do agree with OMZ....until yur pushin high numbers, the 7.5 is safe to keep

Right now i have an intake/throttle body/long tube headers/dual exhaust set up. I do plan to either supercharge or turbo one day.

thats good for about 240-250 at the crank. When you start talkin about your axles power max...think Rear Wheel Horse Power RWHP. with that said take about 18% off of 240-250 to get what yur actually puttin down at the tires.

2 things...

1. you will want to go super... they way your not redoing your whole exhaust...
2. you will not see those kinda numbers to the wheel... some one with similar mods was getting about 170 to the wheels with an auto tranny

sorry man, no way you can be putting down 240-250 to the rear wheels with just those mods. they do add a little, but not that much. throttle body is useless unless ur ported to match it.

for quick math its 10% for manuals 20% for autos... just so you can do it in your head... i think your right own its closer to like 13 and 18 to be more exact
