4.2l stroker

So I think I'm gonna go with a 4.2L stroker setup instead of just scing my 3.8. Reason being my engine has 125k and I'd rather start with a fresh motor. I'd port and polish the 4.2 heads and intakes and I already have a cam so it would be pretty built. I'd eventually supercharge it I'd just have to save more money. Anyone wanna talk me out of it?

well, ssms is legit and the quality is top notch. all of the problems people have with the 4.2Ls is from people buying re-manned 4.2s from precision and not knowing what is in it internally... supersix motorsports does some great motor building and innovation.

i heard precision are shit. I was going down the exact same route as you, and i decided ssms was too expensive and i called precision, they did not have a clue what the were talking aobut at all. They told me one hundred different things. I bought a local f150 motor that i found on ebay for 500 and rebuilt it. Im not sure if that would be the best route for you as well, but if you cant afford ssms thats probally the next best thing

id say ssms
or u could try and find a nice block and rebild it ur self with stroker kits from ssms or delk, but if u got that way and r planing on go FI i would get forged bottom end, and then u wont have to wory about a week bottom end.

I just did this swap so im sure i could help you out. You need a new harmonic balancer if your car is not 01 or newer, and you would have to zero balance your flywheel. Other than that there isnt much you need, you will need to use the mustang upper and lower intakes, as well as the mustang wiring harness and get it tuned for the 4.2. The swap itself is rather easy. and shouldnt take more than two full days

also just checked and made a mistake in the list, it is the underlined part, it goes like this.

99 and 00 windstar upper lower<cut & weld upper and egr removed lower<then the 01+windstar upper lower combo

just insert that over the inserted part, and after i get some more infor on the SSMS sheat metal upper i will work that in wear that should be.

from what ive heard about ssm, their 4.3 complete engine pretty much drops in, bolts up, reconnect everything and start it up. is that true?
